This website (mattiamenchetti.com) is the personal academic site of Mattia Menchetti. It also hosts the browser game RangeQuest. This page explains what data is collected, why, and what you can do about it.
Who is responsible
Mattia Menchetti. To ask what data is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, use the contact details on the contact page.
The website
This site sets no cookies. It uses no advertising, no analytics service and no visitor tracking. WordPress may store a small amount of technical information in your browser so pages display correctly, and it would set a cookie only if you were to log in as an administrator.
Server logs. The hosting provider records standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. These are kept only as long as needed for that purpose.
Content from other services. Some pages load content from third parties, and those services receive your IP address when their content loads, exactly as if you had visited them directly: Google Fonts, for the typefaces used across the site, and Altmetric and Dimensions, for the citation and attention badges shown next to publications.
RangeQuest (the game)
Your progress stays on your device. Your Field Guide, Adventure save, chosen language and settings are stored in your own browser and are not sent anywhere, unless you deliberately switch on cloud sync.
No cookies, no ads, no analytics. The game sets no cookies and uses no analytics service.
Live player count. A random identifier is created in your browser and sent to the game’s database so the site can show how many people are playing right now. It is not linked to your name and is not shared with anyone.
Optional cloud sync. If you turn on sync, your collection and a Player Code are stored in the game’s database so you can restore progress on another device. This is entirely your choice.
Leaderboards and live events. If you submit a score or join a live event, the name you type is stored and shown to other players. Use a nickname if you prefer.
Feedback. If you send feedback from inside the game, the message, the page you were on and your browser’s user agent are stored so the report can be understood and acted on.
Content from other services. Maps come from OpenStreetMap, photographs from iNaturalist, silhouettes from PhyloPic and fonts from Google. These services receive your IP address when their content loads.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to it being processed. Inside RangeQuest you can delete everything, both on your device and in the cloud, at any time from Profile and Sync. For anything else, get in touch using the contact page above. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
